Named after hypnotic front woman Nubiya Brandon, 12-piece afro-beat jazzy dub outfit Nubiyan Twist formed in 2011 after meeting at Leeds College of Music.
Comprising a four-piece horn section, five-piece rhythm section, and four-part vocal harmonies, live dubs and electronics, the multi-capable group of musicians, DJs and producers take inspiration from the likes of Fela Kuti, King Tubby, J Dilla, Herbie Hancock, and Nat King Cole.
Just a few days ago, their latest EP Dance Inna London dropped – a 21st century reworking of Super Cat’s 1982 dancehall track Dance Inna New York, along with jazz-led B-side All the Pieces.
In support of the new record, the whole gang are bringing their live show to The Fleece this Thursday, with support from alternative soulful hip hop collective Sounds of Harlowe, and world-funk spinning DJs Worm Disco Club.
We’ve got two tickets to give away to the show on 13 May – and guaranteed good times. For a chance to win, simply enter your details below. We will contact the winner on the morning of the show.
