South West’s DJ Baze wins a set at Hospitality x The Blast’s Shockout Festival

The drum and bass DJ will get to warm up for the likes of Caspa and Serial Killaz on the Arena Four stage

Last month, alongside Hospitality DnB, The Blast and Dazed, we launched a competition to uncover a fresh DJ talent, with the chance to win a place on one of the biggest bass music lineups of the year: Shockout Festival.

The new one-dayer from bassweight dream team The Blast and Hospitality DnB will see titans like SASASAS, High Contrast, J Hus, Hype and Hazard, Holy Goof and My Nu Leng, play alongside some of the best emerging talents across four arenas this February.

The winner of the competition will have the honour of warming up for the likes of 140-legend Caspa and junglist favourites Serial Killaz on the Arena Four stage, hosted by Bristol’s Dazed crew.

Entrants were invited to submit a short mix to showcase their talents. After a public voting period, the 10 most popular mixes went through to a panel of judges from Hospitality, The Blast and Dazed to decide the eventual winner.

Bath-based DJ Baze was unanimously crowned the winner with his 20-minute drum and bass mix, which judges praised for its smooth mixing and selection of tunes – successfully avoiding the temptation to cram too many into the short time frame allowed.

‘Everyone on our team enjoyed Baze’s mix,’ says The Blast’s Tom Hoyle. ‘It was well thought out and smoothly mixed with a nice selection of tunes. Rob also particularly liked the Monty track.’

Ed Priest from Hospital Records says, ‘DJ Baze really captured the essence of the warm up DJ’s job. A nice selection topped off with clean blends set the levels brilliantly.’

The mix I have put together reflects the sort of vibe I’ll be bringing to the Dazed stage

‘The mix I have put together reflects the sort of vibe I’ll be bringing to the Dazed stage,’ says winner DJ Baze. ‘The intended purpose of the mix was to showcase a progressive sound, with a varied tune selection and array of mixing styles.

‘I’d like to thank everyone that voted for me, with a special mention to Nitelife and the Shockout team for this great opportunity. It’s going to be a great festival and one I’m extremely proud to be involved in.’
