Shindig Festival returns this year starting their new legacy at Dillington Estate. This year is sure to bring a few more historical moments, with a wicked lineup including legends such as Roy Ayers and Goldie – plus the return of some familiar faces.

If the festival was a body, Will Lardner would be its brain. The Shindig co-founder spends all year planning the lineup and  mapping out your festival experience. Will uses his years of experience of branding, promoting and even performing himself to create the type of eclectic and feel-good lineup that Shindig is well known for. And it seems that he is rightly proud with his work for this year:

‘We have so much amazing music this year: Roy Ayers, Goldie, House Gospel Choir, Raf Daddy from the 2 Bears new live band and Jazzie B from Soul II Soul DJing. Not to forget Shindig regulars such as Rodney P, Danielle Moore, Terry Farley & Altern 8.’

Alongside big name headliners, Shindig has a reputation for finding your new favourite acts. Already legends within their own scene , Will brings some cult-adored heroes to Shindig’s colourful musical playground each year. Here are a handful of Will’s favourites to look out for:

Nightmares on Wax

Where do you start? It’s the 25th anniversary of Smokers Delight this year and that album had a massive impact on so many of our lives. He is one of the best DJs and selectors we know, and he will be taking us on an epic 3-hour journey in The Dig Inn on Saturday night.

Francois K

‘Francois K is considered by most as one of the forefathers of the New York house scene. He held residencies at Paradise Garage and Studio 54. He has also done remixes for the likes of Diana Ross, Pet Shop Boys & Kraftwerk. This is the mind, body and soul of house music and he is flying in all the way from NYC to play Shindig.’

Ibibio Sound Machine

‘Their 2019 album Doko Mien hasn’t left the office stereo since it came out. I have been wanting them for ages, we tried last year but they were supporting some guys called The Chemical Brothers that weekend – but we finally got them this year! The live show is spectacular and they’ll have you grooving from start to finish.’

Odyssey / Reach Up Disco Wonderland

‘Yes, that Odyssey. We are Going Back to My Roots. Best known for a series of chart-topping hits in the late 70s and early 80s, this kind of afternoon Hang Together is what Shindig is really about. Funk, soul and disco classics, performed live. Supporting them will be the Reach Up DJ’s bringing their Disco Wonderland show to Shindig – the new disco, boogie and proto-house project from Portishead’s Andy Smith and XL Recordings Co-Founder, Nick Halkes.’

T>I

‘He has played the last few years at Shindig and his continual rise through the ranks of drum and bass has been well documented. With his debut album due out very soon, I can only see his popularity growing. I’ll be honest, I’m slightly biased, Mathew is an old friend, we had our first vinyl release out together 15(ish) years ago. Watching your friend grow in an industry and end up at the top of his game has been amazing to see. He always smashes it at Shindig and is one of the most talked about and in demand artists in drum and bass right now.’

Warmduscher

‘Bit of a curve ball this one… We stumbled across these guys at a festival back in 2018. The energy was crazy! Then when they dropped their album in 2019 and we saw them live again – it was an obvious booking for us. Now since confirming them for Shindig they have been playlisted on 6Music and tipped to be one of the hottest bands in 2020. I love it when things like that happen, that’s a good booking!’
