Nitelife are excited to make some noise for one of our favourite collectives 24hr Garage Girls, as they prepare for the release their first compilation album this Friday, alongside a secret location, invite-only party to celebrate. Let’s face it, these girls know how to treat their fans.

Bristol’s homegrown concept brand and badass party collective, 24hr Garage Girls started out at Boomtown in 2013 with their a ‘human car wash’ sideshow. Since then, the Garage Girls have grown to dominate not just Boomtown – with their always-rammed, fully-fledged stage – but the whole of the UK, with club nights, festival stages and even two sell out tours under their belt.

To kick off 2020, the girls have hit the ground running with the release of the first in a biannual compilation series. The 10-track UKG Compilation 2020 aims to wake up garage music fans to the new generation of sound and features contributions from Zed Bias, Matt Jam Lamont and SHOSH herself.

To celebrate, the Garage Girls will also be throwing a free warehouse party for fans who pre-order the album at a secret location in Bristol.

Nitelife caught up the 24hr Garage Girls founder and DJ and producer SHOSH and core crew member Elley on the run up to their album launch to find out more about their compilation album and what’s in store for the secret location launch party.

‘We want these compilation albums to celebrate the new UK Garage. We don’t want to go back to the old school. We want to celebrate the genre moving forward, which is something I feel really passionate about at the moment’ explains SHOSH, as we sit down to talk about the inspiration behind the compilation album series.

‘A lot of people are really sticking with the old school, so we want to nurture new things that are coming through and there are a lot of blossoming producers that I really want to help build a platform for.’

This Friday’s launch will not only be the first of the biannual compilation releases, but it will also mark 24hr Garage Girls’ establishment as a flagship garage music label, as well as prestige event organisers and party starters.

‘We have released things on this label before, but this will be the first thing that is a big push to get it recognised as a label. Before it was just a place for me to put my music’ SHOSH continues.

‘Our first compilation has 10 tracks, featuring fifteen contributing artists. It’s a complete mix of legends and brand-new producers. We’ve got people like Zed Bias, Matt Jam Lamont, Proper Tings, and we’ve also got some big names that are current at the moment, like Majestic, and new producers like myself and Soulecta and Blk Jck.’

‘Artists like Proper Tings and even Blck Jck have been making music for years, but up until now didn’t have anywhere to put it. I wanted to offer these artists a home for their music.’

24hr Garage Girls’ warehouse party this Friday is also promising to be a banger. Creating a 360-degree dancefloor with the DJ at the centre of a house party-inspired setting filled with lamps and sofas, SHOSH assures us this is an exclusive party you need to be part of.

‘The whole idea is that the DJ isn’t separate from the party – we’re all in it together. We want it to feel like the DJ and soundsystem aren’t something to worship directly in front of you, we want it to be immersive and involve everybody.

‘We’ve got a special guest coming from the album, but we’re not going to let slip who it is. You can also expect the full 24hr Garage Girls party vibes, which is as important, if not more important than the DJs!

‘Because this is such a big thing for us to launch, I wanted to do something for the fans that would make it more interactive than just a general release. We wanted to give back to the fans with a party to celebrate the release of the compilation and say thank you for their support so far.’

As we wrap up our chat with the 24hr Garage Girls, SHOSH and Elley explain how to get your hands on the compilation and free tickets to their secret location album launch party.

‘We are collecting email addresses for people who pre-order or pre-save the album. All of these people will get a care package a couple of days before the event with all the information you need to know. So it will be a guest list, need-to-know basis.

‘They just need to send us a screen shot of their order on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, along with their email address and they will automatically be added to our guest list. We’ve probably already got 30% of our capacity already filled, so you’ve got to act fast, but it’s exclusive.’

Elley adds: ‘It’s a bit like exclusive trainers – when everyone queues outside the shop to get their hands on a pair!’
