10 Questions with Sector 7 Sounds

Sector 7 Sounds head Boofy and Lemzly Dale answer some questions ahead of a label takeover at Thekla

Sector 7 Sounds heads Boofy and Lemzly Dale are key players in the 140bpm microcosm of Bristol. Boofy is a bonafide Bandulu member alongside Kahn, Neek and Hi5ghost, while Lemzly Dale’s Holy I$$h remix was laid to wax on Bandulu Records in 2017.

They launched Sector 7 Sounds together in 2013 with their Catch a Body / Banshee 12”, putting out a handful of very well received releases in the years following; though things really hotted up on the DIY grime label last year, with EP releases from Drone and Lemzly Dale’s excellent Catty EP.

Sector 7 Sounds is taking over Thekla for an evening this March, bringing in one of the scene’s finest, Commodo with Rocks FOE, along with Sector 7 family Drone and Jook – plus a look in from Boofy and Lemzly Dale, of course.

Those questions

1. What have you learned today?
LEMZLY DALE: The swirl on a Poliwhirl’s belly is actually its internal organs, they just have really thin skin.

2. Which song by another artist most inspires you?
BOOFY: Mndsgn – Frugality.

3. Who are your top three acts right now?
L: Pretty much just had Rocks FOE, James Blake and Manonmars on rotation for the past few weeks.

4. It’s 3am and the party is winding down, what track do you play to get everyone going again?
B: Dazz Band – You Are My Starship (Urbanmix) – it’s a cheat code.

5. If you couldn’t work in music, what would you be doing instead?
L: Sulking. Nah, probably more art and design stuff.

6. What was the last book you read?
B: Using the term read loosely, Clubbed: a visual history of UK club culture.

7. Most recent binge watch?
L: Videos of goats eating different foods.

8. Do you have a party trick?
B: Yeah, I do this thing where I disappear when everyone else is looking the other way. Either that or beating a buffet 1-0 to me.

9. Tell us something people don’t generally know about you…
L: I’ve got this thing called Brown’s syndrome, which means I can only look up properly with one eye. My left eye just veers off halfway.

10. What are you doing tomorrow?
B:  Gym and then bleaching the kitchen floors. Life’s a bit mental.
