Headed up by Bristol-based producer and DJ Shosh, 24hr Garage Girls is a growing collective of female garage DJs and devotees.
In just a few years, their original concept has grown from raving out of burnt out cars at festivals and raves around the country, to soundclashing against Heartless Crew at Glastonbury’s Shangri-La this year. They’re also just about to drop their first EP and are throwing an intimate Bristol pool party to celebrate – Garage Girls style. Think blinging swimwear, inflatables, water guns and, of course, chest-rattling garage, with Shaun Dean, Mikey B, Ali Monsta and Shosh herself on the decks.
The five-track EP, featuring tracks from Shaun Dean, Shosh, Mikey B, Cellardore and King Hydra, will be out for free download in early November. Look out for it on all major online platforms including Juno, Spotify and iTunes.
1. What have you learned today?
My housemate told me that there are over 100 names for woodlouse. He calls them cheesy bobs, for instance. There’s even a regional map for it…
2.) Favourite track of all time?
It changes constantly, that’s impossible. For UK garage, maybeee Right Before My Eyes by N’n’G & Little Nikki (the remix). I just feel like that song has all the best bits of garage combined. And it’s such a simple track.
3.) It’s 3am and the party is winding down, what track do you play to get everyone going again?
What kind of party winds down at 3am? Only Daniel Bedingfield would get us ‘thru’ a situation like that 😉
4.) Who are your top three acts right now?
I’m very lucky because Garage Girls enables me to support a lot of artists I personally feel are doing great things right now. Our lineups always reflect that. Lately, I’ve been working a lot with Mikey B and MC Vapour. Shaun Dean and Cellardore are also putting out some great tracks right now… Is that too many?
5.) If you couldn’t work in music, what would you be doing instead?
Making cakes or writing books.
6.) What was the last book you read?
The Child in Time by Ian McEwan.
7.) Favourite thing on TV?
Ricky & Morty and The Great British Bake Off. #GBBO!
8.) Are you afraid of anything?
Failure and SPIDERS.
9.) Tell us something people don’t know about you…
I’ve got a Masters in English and Creative Writing. I wrote a 170-page novel for my thesis about a little girl called Annette.
10.) What are you doing tomorrow?
Preparing for my next gig and sending a bunch of emails – boring!
