For over 30 years, St. Paul’s Adventure Playground has provided a safe space for Bristol’s community to gather and play just north of the city centre. Feeling the financial pinch, the Adventure Playground have teamed up with festival organisers Team Love to put on a fundraising day-festival that celebrates Bristol’s diverse cultural history whilst aiming to protect this space for the future.
The all-day event brings together a whole host of iconic local talent, including Reprazent legends Roni Size, Krust and DJ Die, and dubstep pioneers Pinch and Joker, among others – all lending their time for free to raise money for the playground’s continuing success.
Team Love – who bring us Love Saves The Day, as well as The Downs festival alongside Crosstown Concerts – have also made sure to give a platform to future talent, with a showcase of emerging Bristol musicians. They’ll also be paying homage to the city’s street art culture with live painting from local artists, including Inkie.
All proceeds will go directly to keeping St. Paul’s Adventure Playground open and maintained
Earlier this week, St. Paul’s Adventure Playground surpassed their Crowdfunder target, raising just over £12,000 – but tickets to the all-day event are still available via Headfirst. All proceeds will go directly to keeping St. Paul’s Adventure Playground open and maintained, so you can two-step safe in the knowledge you’re doing it for a good cause.
You can find a full list of performers below, but here’s a few highlights, from the headliners to some more unknown acts –
Known for the jungle influences that permeate his high energy music, drum and bass local boy Roni Size will be headlining the event. His CV is enormous: he’s worked with other artists on this bill as Roni Size & Reprazent, played many large UK festival including Glastonbury and Bestival, signed to Universal, won a Mercury Prize, etcetera. What better place to see a DnB pioneer than on his home turf?
One of Roni Size’s most prestigious compatriots, having worked with Mr. Size under multiple aliases, DJ Die has a genre-spanning career taking him from the early days of jungle mastery up to his current mesh of house, old school dubstep, and whatever else he fancies. He’s released music under at least eleven different names, so it’s safe to assume that you can’t bet on what to expect from Die’s Fundraiser performance, other than the fact it’ll be full of quality bangers and masterful mixing.
Another one of the boys from Roni Size & Reprazent, Krust carved a name for himself in the drum and bass scene by injecting heavy use of bass melodies alongside percussion that lazily swaggers its way into rhythm. His prolific output is full of quality classics, the 2018 The Portal / Concealing Treachery split on ThirtyOne Recordings being a personal favourite.
Bleeeks & ΤΛΣ
Part of the ‘Emerging Talent’ roster, Bristol music and rap collective TΛΣ will perform helmed by grime-via-the-East-Coast local boy and TΛΣ collaborator Bleeeks. In 2018, Bleeeks began making waves in the scene after releasing his EP Lookin’ For Them Better Days, whilst TΛΣ’s stable of local rappers have slowly been spreading their message and gathering support over the last few years. With versatile performers like Jasi and Rxy hitting the stage with Bleeeks’ confident vocal mastery backing them, this is a set not to be overlooked.
Live art: Sepr & Inkie
And finally, some live painting by two legends in the graffiti scene. Sepr’s style can be best described as a political comic book whose characters are at once realistic and completely alien, whilst Inkie’s work is powerfully bold, often showing strong female representations of beauty and strength, whilst using abstract colour choices to highlight these influences. Both are local heroes, with their pieces dotting the city, and they’ll be joined at the Fundraiser by 3Dom and others for some live graffiti painting.
