E-Coli’s top 10 acts at Balter Festival 2019

The brain behind Balter gives us his favourite acts from this year's lineup

Balter Festival will once again consume Chepstow Racecourse next Friday for three days of music and mayhem. Founded by gypsycore producer E-Coli and run annually with the help of a likeminded group of friends, Balter is a cult favourite the world over.

Though there is plenty of entertainment to be found between sets, with water gun obstacle courses, the Bucky Brigade and the annual Life’s a Drag Miss Balter Beauty Contest; E-Coli has given us his top 10 acts from this year’s lineup.

Returning Balterites will discover two brand new stages this year

Returning Balterites will discover two brand new stages this year: Phlegmgazm will be showcasing underground noise and metal sounds, and The Lab will feature whole crew takeovers from the likes of DRM and Mandidextrous. A new and improved Balkanical Circus, will now be open all day and night with cabaret, fire shows and circus performers to complement a busy lineup of gypsy, balkan, reggae, dub and hip hop – topped by the Mighty Channel One Soundsystem.

Los Albertos – Friday, 21.00 – 22.00 – The Caravan

One of our favourite live acts, this is the second time the legendary Brighton-based punk band have headlined The Caravan stage and we can’t wait to have them back!

Black Sun Empire – Saturday, 19.00 – 20.00 – Buckyham Palace

One of the biggest acts in drum and bass, BSE have been smashing stages all around the world for years. The largest name we’ve ever had on what was once our newcomers stage, Buckyham Palace has grown to be a behemoth at the top of the festival site.

Culprate – Friday, 01.00 – 02.00 – The Hex

Personally one of my favourite producers on this year’s lineup, Culprate’s production levels are insane and his Deliverance is one of my favourite electronic albums. I will be at the front for this one!

The Japanese Invasion – Saturday, 16.00 – 20.00 – The Lab

Headlining our brand new stage The Lab, we have five DJs coming straight from Japan to bring their own multi-genre style of madness. M-Project, Rock Up Hard Crew, Savage States, Matres and Yuko Urameshi. It’s going to be unique and one not to miss!

The Destroyers – Saturday, 01.00 – 02.00 – Balkanical Circus

14 piece all-out gypsy ska from Birmingham. They headlined the first ever Balter Festival and we’re super excited to bring them back.

Lady Lox – Friday, 18.00 – 19.00 – Buckyham Palace

Our crew chef and all-round junglist bad girl, Lady Lox has all the best amen juggling tunes for a sunny skank out.

Serrabulho – Saturday, 19.00 – 20.00 – Phlegmgazm

Portuguese band bringing over the heaviest grindcore and death metal, Serrabulho are headlining another brand new stage.

Vandal b2b Mandidextrous – Sunday, 22.00 – 23.00 Jigsore

Two of the biggest names in hardtek come together in a match made in heaven for any fans of 190bpm 4×4 kick drums. Last time they played together at Balter it was so heavy they literally broke the crowd barrier and we had to close the tent while we fixed it! This year we have got stronger crowd barrier and are prepped and ready for even more madness!

Phatworld – Saturday – 15.45 – 16.30 – 24hr Garage Girls

Bouncy bassline from one of the top acts from one of our favourite crews; OffMeNut. Coming through every year, this is the Sheffield sound to a T!

Simonella – Saturday, 17.00 – 18.00 – The Dutty Disco

50s rock and roll and cheesy classics. The Dutty Disco is everyone’s favourite stage when it really comes down to it, nothing but cheese and old school all weekend on a four meter-wide revolving disco ball DJ booth. This set features my younger sister on her first ever DJ set though, so is obviously the one to be at!
