Remember when hip hop used to be fun? Well, so do The Allergies. The Bristol duo combine the best of golden era hip hop sounds with a heavy helping of funk to create music that we challenge anyone  not to dance to.

Moneyshot and Rackabeat AKA Roy Spencer and Adam Volson respectively began making music together in 2012 after discovering their mutual love of hip hop, funk, soul and disco. Roy, a master of cut and paste turntablism and Solid Steel Radio (Ninja Tune) regular, and Adam, an ex-drum and bass producer-turned funky, are a musical match made in heaven. Since their debut album As We Do Our Thing in 2016, which shot up the iTunes charts, they’ve been hitting it harder and harder. Push On, released last year, received massive amounts of praise and plays across all of the BBC Radio channels.

Now, The Allergies are back again with their latest project, Steal the Show, released officially via Jalapeno Records on 19 October. Some familiar faces return, including Ugly Duckling legend Andy Cooper, who’s back on four tracks, as well as Dr Syntax. Steal the Show also features contributions from A.S.M, Mizo FitzRoy, Skunkadelic and Unkle Frank.

We’ve already heard a few tracks from the album, but The Allergies are treating us to one more ahead of official release. The album’s closing track Samba Fox gloriously pulls together frantic samba drumming, boom bap and funky hornage.

Steal The Show will be our third album in as many years, and we reckon it’s our best yet,’ Roy says. ‘We roped in some cool rappers and singers, and widened the crew by bringing in musicians to fill out our usual sample scape beat making.

‘We’ve got label mate Izo FitzRoy singing, as well as the Fun Lovin’ Criminals’ Uncle Frank. Rappers ASM turn up the heat on a hip hop track, as does Cardiff’s own MC legend, Skunkadelic.

‘Fans of the last two LPs will be in hog heaven, too, as we’ve got more Andy Cooper on this one more than ever before. The Ugly Duckling frontman spits crazy raps in front of the mic and even wrote a couple of numbers behind the boards for our go-to session singer Honey Larochelle.

‘As you’d expect from us by now, Steal The Show is full of classic boom bap rap, boogie and disco bangers, head-nod funk, and plenty of other dance floor grooves. We hope you dig it as much as we do!’

Listen to Samba Fox in full above. You can also hear the full album played live in a week’s time at Colston Hall, where they’ll be taking over the Foyer with Andy Cooper and Marietta Smith in tow.
